I started active birding and bird photographing in 2015 when I got my new Canon 700D+ canon 75-300mm lens. Both were new to me at that time and I had to learn two skills at the same time-art of bird watching and photography! As I started spending time in the field I quickly realized that canon75-300mm lens was a bad buy for two main reasons- one it dint have have image stabilization and had lots of chromatic fringing and two – no reach for bird photography which as a naïve and novice beginner I wasn’t aware of when I bought it! Since by then, I was hooked onto birding, I bought a Tamron 150-600mm G1 which at that time was the most expensive and heaviest purchase I had made! That was my gear until 2016 when I got a canon 7DMkii body which is my favourite camera body till date.
In 2019 I traded my Tamron G1 for a canon 100-400 IS ii lens as my tamron was giving me wrist pain from carrying it for longer duration and had poor low light performance. My present workhorse gear is my Canon 7Dmkii+canon 100-400IS ii .
Presently I also bought a canon R7 mirrorless body since my shutter count in canon 7DMkii has almost reached its limit. Inspite of my R7, I still use my old faithful 7Dmkii predominantly!
My first camera body 700D my husband uses for making his videos using kitlens 18-55mm. I also pair it up with my Tamron 90mm macro lens for taking shots of insects, flowers etc .
